Dan Campbell: Safety Help Still Needed

The Lions recently made some changes to their cornerback group by signing Amik Robertson and trading for Carlton Davis. However, they have yet to add any safeties to the mix since the end of last season. Head coach Dan Campbell addressed this issue during a press conference last week, hinting that they are in the market for more players at this position.

Kerby Joseph and Ifeatu Melifonwu are expected to return to the secondary in 2024, but Campbell emphasized the team’s need for additional safety help. He mentioned that they are looking to bring in more competition in that area to improve the roster. The Lions are actively searching for options to bolster their safety group and are keeping their eyes open for potential additions.

While 2023 second-round pick Brian Branch can play safety, the team has been utilizing him in the slot position since his arrival in Detroit. Campbell acknowledged that players like Justin Simmons and Quandre Diggs are available in free agency, but the Lions may opt for younger prospects by targeting safeties in the upcoming draft. The team’s focus remains on strengthening their safety lineup for the upcoming season.
