Dawson Merritt, a highly sought-after four-star linebacker from Blue Valley High School in Overland Park, Kansas, has officially committed to playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide. This decision was widely expected in the recruiting industry, with experts predicting Merritt would choose Alabama over other schools. This commitment is a disappointing loss for Nebraska, as Merritt was a top target for their coaching staff.
Despite Nebraska’s efforts to recruit Merritt, the Crimson Tide ultimately won him over during an official visit to Tuscaloosa in June. While this may be a setback for the Huskers, they are still assembling a strong 2025 recruiting class, with 11 commitments already secured. Notable players, such as quarterback TJ Lateef, running back Jamarion Parker, and defensive lineman Malcolm Simpson, have committed to Nebraska.
