At WVU, all domestic students registered for six or more credits and all international students are required to have health insurance. This can be either through an existing plan or the WVU Aetna Student Insurance Plan. Students who meet certain criteria can choose to opt out of the WVU-sponsored Aetna student insurance by completing a waiver before the deadline. The waiver deadline for Fall 2024 is July 26.
This requirement also applies to employees and their dependents who are taking classes on campus or online. They must be enrolled in at least six credit hours for domestic students and one credit hour for international students, regardless of whether they have insurance through PEIA. For any questions or concerns, students can contact the Student Insurance Office at SIO@mail.wvu.edu.
For more information, students can visit the WVU website to find additional details regarding the health insurance requirement and options available to them.
