IonQ, a quantum computing company headquartered in College Park, Maryland, has appointed Dean Kassmann as the senior vice president of its newly established engineering and technology division. Kassmann, who previously held the role of vice president of engineering at the company, has been integral in achieving many of IonQ’s significant milestones over the past two years. Peter Chapman, IonQ’s president and CEO, stated that Kassmann’s combination of technical expertise and business acumen make him the perfect candidate to lead the engineering and technology division.
Chapman expressed his confidence in Kassmann’s leadership abilities, noting that he has been crucial in advancing the company’s key initiatives and that his vision for the future of quantum computing aligns closely with IonQ’s strategic objectives. Since joining IonQ in late 2021, Kassmann and his team have filed a total of 188 U.S. and foreign patent applications, showcasing their commitment to innovation and advancement in the field of quantum computing.
In addition to his role at IonQ, Kassmann has held leadership positions at aerospace company Blue Origin and gained experience as a business analyst at Amazon and a senior technologist at Aspen Technology. His diverse background and expertise in technology and engineering make him a valuable asset to IonQ as the company continues to make strides in the field of quantum computing.
