The construction of the $45 million Buena Vista Sports Complex in Laredo, Texas is ongoing, with completion expected by the end of this month. The complex, which will feature 10 baseball and softball fields as well as two multi-purpose fields for soccer and football, had its groundbreaking in August 2022 with a planned finish date of July 2024.
Councilmember Gilbert Gonzalez from District 1 mentioned that the crews are currently working on leveling the land for the new fields and parking lots. He shared that while the land leveling was challenging, they are now progressing with the construction of the fields and parking lots within a timeframe of 12 to 16 months.
Once finished, the Buena Vista Sports Complex will serve as a venue for regional and national tournaments. There are also plans for a potential second phase of the project, which could include the addition of a water park. The project is being funded through the sports venue tax.
