Denmark Outlaws Samyang Ramen Packets Due to Extreme Spiciness

Denmark’s food safety agency has recalled three varieties of instant ramen made by Korean brand Samyang due to their high capsaicin content, which could be harmful to children. This is the first time that Samyang’s products have been recalled for being too spicy, according to the brand.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration (DVFA) issued the recall, stating that the noodles were so spicy that they posed a risk to young children and some adults. The agency mentioned that kids were participating in social media challenges involving eating extremely spicy foods, which has led to hospitalizations in Germany.

The DVFA was alerted to the issue by a customer and then assessed the noodles through the DTU National Food Institute to determine potential harm. The capsaicin content in the noodles could lead to symptoms such as burning, nausea, vomiting, and high blood pressure.

The three recalled varieties of instant ramen from Samyang are: Samyang Buldak 3x Spicy & Hot Chicken, Samyang Buldak 2x Spicy & Hot Chicken, and Samyang Buldak Hot Chicken Stew. Samyang stated that the recall was not due to a quality issue, but rather because the products were too spicy. The company is now looking into local regulations in response to the recall.
