Broncos Wire continues their 90-man offseason roster series with a spotlight on ninth-year fullback Michael Burton, wearing No. 20. Prior to joining the Broncos, Burton, standing at 6-0 and weighing 247 pounds, was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the fifth round out of Rutgers in 2015. After spending two seasons in Detroit, he was waived in 2017 and went on to play for the Chicago Bears for two years. Following a brief stint with the New Orleans Saints in 2019, Burton joined the Washington Commanders before returning to the Saints for the 2020 season. He then played for the Kansas City Chiefs from 2021 to 2022, contributing to their Super Bowl LVII win. Known for his blocking abilities, Burton has also recorded rushing and receiving statistics in his career.
Since signing with the Broncos on a one-year deal last spring, Burton has been a key player, serving as both a fullback and contributing on special teams during the 2023 season. He recently re-signed with the team on another one-year contract. Barring any major changes, Burton’s place on the roster seems secure for the upcoming season. As the only true fullback on the Broncos’ current roster, unless they decide to transition tight end/fullback Nate Adkins to a full-time fullback position, Burton’s role is solidified leading into training camp.
