Women’s sports have had a great year with more coverage than ever before, as shown by new research from Wasserman that found 15% of all sports coverage in the U.S. is focused on women’s sports. This surge in coverage is likely due in part to the rise of new female sports stars such as Sha’Carri Richardson, Coco Gauff, and Simone Biles.
However, while this is a positive development, there is still plenty of room for growth in both the quality and quantity of women’s sports coverage. Shira Springer, a lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management and a writer for the Sports Business Journal, will be joining host Robin Young to discuss this research and where women’s sports need to go next in a segment airing on November 21, 2023. Audio of the segment will be available after the broadcast.
