Diet recommendations for managing atopic dermatitis

Atopic dermatitis, also known as atopic eczema, can cause symptoms like itching, redness, rough and peeling skin, dark or red patches of skin, small blisters, and fluid discharge when broken. This condition puts individuals at risk of complications such as skin infections, fever, asthma, allergic rhinitis, insomnia, loss of appetite, fatigue, weakness, stress, and depression. It can affect people of all ages and genders, so it’s important to seek timely examination and treatment from a dermatology specialist to prevent complications.

Maintaining a balanced diet that includes essential nutrient groups like carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, and minerals is crucial for managing atopic dermatitis. Adding anti-inflammatory and antioxidant-rich foods like omega-3 fatty acids and polyphenols can help improve the condition and enhance treatment effectiveness. Omega-3-rich foods such as fatty fish, nuts, and seeds help reduce inflammation in the body, relieving symptoms caused by an overactive immune system.

Polyphenol-rich foods like dark green leafy vegetables, juicy fruits, and citrus fruits have anti-inflammatory properties that can combat external agents like viruses, bacteria, fungi, and dust that harm the skin. These compounds aid in skin repair, reducing damage from free radicals and oxidative stress. Patients should avoid foods high in refined carbohydrates, fats, red meat, and processed foods as they stimulate inflammatory responses, leading to skin irritation and potentially worsening the condition.

Other lifestyle factors like staying hydrated, getting enough sleep, avoiding allergenic foods, and minimizing contact with triggers like pet hair, pollen, dust, and chemicals from cosmetics or cleaning products can also help manage atopic dermatitis. Incorporating natural essences like cherry blossom extract, pomegranate extract, fern extract, and l-glutathione can support anti-inflammatory effects, reduce skin irritation, boost immunity, and improve skin health.
