Dignity Health and SacValley MedShare collaborate to expand HIE services statewide in California

SacValley MedShare, a health information exchange and qualified health information organization (QHIO) based in California, has recently expanded its network from regional to statewide in collaboration with Dignity Health. For the past ten years, SacValley MedShare has been facilitating the secure exchange of health information among healthcare providers in Northern California to support population health initiatives. Now, with the partnership with Dignity Health, SacValley MedShare is broadening its reach by offering health data exchange services to 30 hospitals across the state. This development represents a significant increase in health information sharing within the communities where Dignity Health operates.

John Helvey, executive director of SacValley MedShare, expressed that becoming a statewide health information exchange was a natural progression for the organization. The alliance with Dignity Health enhances their capabilities, allowing them to innovate and collaborate more effectively in healthcare delivery throughout California. Dignity Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, operates a multi-state nonprofit network with thousands of physicians, employees, hospitals, and care centers in Arizona, California, and Nevada. This collaboration will assist Dignity Health in complying with AB133, ensuring adherence to California’s health Data Exchange Framework regulations.

The Data Exchange Framework is a statewide data-sharing agreement established by California’s Department of Health and Human Services (CalHHS). It is a crucial component in the state’s efforts to transform healthcare, expand coverage, and improve connections between healthcare and social services. Adnan Hamid, California Regional CIO of CommonSpirit Health, emphasized the organization’s commitment to transforming healthcare through innovative partnerships and technology. By working with SacValley MedShare, they aim to improve access to vital health information and create a healthier future for all.
