MDWFP’s Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is excited to offer a variety of events in April that allow visitors to embrace the wonders of the natural world and connect with others. Museum Director Charles Knight expresses enthusiasm for the upcoming events, encouraging the community to participate and enjoy all that the museum has to offer.

The museum’s April events include a Solar Eclipse Event on Monday, April 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This event requires advance tickets and includes a $10 fee that covers eclipse glasses. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities with NASA Astro Camp Specialists and museum educators to observe a 90% eclipse of the sun. Food trucks will be available on-site but are not included in the event fee.

NatureFest is scheduled for Saturday, April 13, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event offers a range of activities, including encounters with live animals from the Hattiesburg Zoo and Freedom Ranch Outreach Education. Visitors can also interact with the Crayfish Man, explore research labs with scientists, enjoy a giant foam party, purchase plants from Camp Creek Native Plants, and explore the “Attack of the Bloodsuckers!” exhibit. The event is included with MMNS Foundation Membership or Museum admission, and food trucks will be available on-site.

Moonlight, Music, and Meteors will take place on Friday, April 19, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. This event offers attendees the opportunity to experience the Lyrid meteor shower alongside the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and area physicists, astronomers, and NASA solar system ambassadors. Advance tickets are $15 until April 18 at noon, and $20 at the door. The event is supported in part by the Mississippi Arts Commission and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Mississippi Museum of Natural Science is located at 2148 Riverside Drive in Jackson, within LeFleur’s Bluff State Park. General admission is $8 for adults, $6 for youth aged 3-18, and $7 for seniors aged 60 and over.
