In 2022, Bexar County ranked among the top three counties in Texas for drug-poisoning related deaths. Fast forward two years, and UT Health in San Antonio has introduced a new system for treating substance use disorder. This innovative approach moves away from traditional 30-day treatment centers and focuses on providing comprehensive care for substance use and mental health issues, both in-person and virtually, across the state regardless of ability to pay.
Dr. Jennifer Potter, the founding director of Be Well, Texas, will be a central figure in Texas Public Radio’s upcoming Think Science event. This event will highlight methods to treat and combat substance use disorder and promises an informative and engaging discussion. TPR’s Nathan Cone will moderate the conversation with Dr. Potter and guests from UT Health, giving attendees the chance to learn more about this groundbreaking initiative and ask questions.
The event is scheduled to take place on Monday, July 15 at 7 p.m. at the Pestana Lecture Hall on the campus of UT Health San Antonio, located at 7703 Floyd Curl Drive. Admission to the event is free, but reservations can be made in advance at this link: https://support.tpr.org/a/be-well. Join us for an enlightening evening focused on tackling substance use disorder and promoting mental health wellness for all.
