DJI is taking a chance on a new industry: e-bikes

DJI, a well-known manufacturer of drones and cameras, has announced its entry into a new sector: electric bikes. At the Eurobike 2024 fair, the company unveiled its new brand of electric mountain bikes, Amflow Bikes. The first model in this new line, the Amflow PL, features the innovative DJI Avinox transmission system, allowing for smartphone control and monitoring of cycling activity. This demonstrates DJI’s commitment to integrating technology into mobility.

The Amflow PL electric mountain bike boasts a maximum power of 850W and a weight of just 19.2 kilograms. Its carbon fiber frame weighs only 2.27 kg, contributing to its lightweight design. Equipped with the DJI Avinox Drive System, the Amflow PL engine delivers 105 Nm of torque and a rated power of 250W, weighing just 2.52 kg. This advanced system automatically adjusts assistance based on terrain conditions and the rider’s position, thanks to its array of sensors.

The bike offers various operating modes, including a ‘Boost’ mode that increases torque to 120 Nm and assistance to 1000W for easier hill climbing. It also features a ‘Walk’ mode that prevents rolling back and provides start-up assistance, along with the ability to change gears while stationary. The Avinox system offers two battery options: one of 600 Wh and another of 800 Wh. The larger capacity battery weighs 2.87kg and can be charged from 0% to 75% in just 1.5 hours, thanks to its 12A/508W GaN charger.

The Amflow PL comes with a FOX-optimized rear shock and is compatible with 27.5″ and 29″ rear wheels. Its 2″ OLED touchscreen, with 800 nits brightness and 326 ppi, allows users to adjust various parameters via smartphone or Bluetooth remote control. The DJI app for the Amflow PL enables adjustments to power, torque, and cadence (up to 150 rpm), along with anti-theft and remote location functions. The bike is equipped with a navigation system that combines GPS, Galileo, BeiDou, GLONASS, and QZSS.

DJI has announced that Amflow bikes will be available in the fourth quarter of 2024 in markets including Germany, the UK, and Australia. As for pricing and local availability, details are yet to be confirmed.
