Djokovic plans to make a speedy return after knee surgery

Novak Djokovic, the defending men’s champion at the French Open, recently underwent surgery for a knee injury. The 24-time Grand Slam champion had to withdraw from the quarter-final match against Casper Ruud after tearing the medial meniscus in his right knee during a fourth-round victory over Francisco Cerundolo. Djokovic expressed his determination to return to the court as soon as possible following a successful surgery.

The recovery process is expected to take at least three weeks, potentially causing Djokovic to miss Wimbledon, which begins on 1 July. The injury will also impact his preparations for the Olympic Games starting on 27 July in Paris. Despite the setback, Djokovic remains committed to the sport and competing at the highest level.

As a seven-time Wimbledon champion, Djokovic has a strong desire to add an Olympic gold medal to his achievements this year. He thanked his medical team and fans for their support and reassured everyone that he is focused on regaining his health and fitness to make a speedy return to the court. Djokovic will also lose his world number one ranking to Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who is set to take his place following Djokovic’s absence due to the injury.

In the upcoming French Open semi-finals, Australian Open champion Sinner will face Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, highlighting the competitive nature of the tennis world in Djokovic’s absence.
