Novant Health is making changes that will result in the layoff of more than 170 employees across the Carolinas. The notices filed revealed that 90 people will be laid off in Lancaster County, and another 81 in Winston-Salem. These permanent layoffs are set to take effect on August 25, 2024.

The layoffs are a result of a new IT model announced in 2023 by Novant Health. Some of the company’s Digital Products and Services (DPS) functions have been moved to an external partner, specifically Deloitte Digital. This shift will reduce Novant Health’s use of other external partners by more than 90 percent.

As a result of these changes, some DPS employees will experience adjustments in their roles and responsibilities, while other positions will be phased out entirely. Employees affected by the layoffs could have the opportunity to join external partners or move to new roles within Novant Health.

Novant Health is a large medical provider with nearly 40,000 employees spread across its 19 inpatient centers and over 850 outpatient facilities. The company says these changes are necessary to scale its resources and continue investing in creating a healthier future for the people and communities it serves.

The layoffs at Novant Health are part of a larger trend of job cuts in the Charlotte area, with reports suggesting that over 150 Walmart employees in Charlotte will also be laid off. Copyright 2024 WBTV. All rights reserved.
