Dodgers’ All-Star Mookie Betts Suffers Wrist Fracture After Being Hit by 98 mph Fastball

Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star Mookie Betts was hit by a 98 mph fastball during Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Royals, resulting in a fractured bone in his left wrist. Manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Betts will be sidelined for a significant amount of time, although surgery is not expected to be necessary. A specific timeline for his return was not immediately available.

The incident occurred in the bottom of the seventh inning with the Dodgers leading 3-0. Betts was hit by the pitch from Royals reliever Dan Altavilla, causing him to crumple in pain and eventually leave the game. Miguel Rojas entered the game in Betts’ place and took over at shortstop.

Despite the Dodgers’ 3-0 victory, Betts’ health was the primary concern following the game. The former MVP and seven-time All-Star has been a key player for the Dodgers, with impressive stats this season including 10 home runs, 40 RBI, and nine stolen bases.

The injury to Betts added to the Dodgers’ injury worries, as they also recently placed rookie pitcher Yoshinobu Yamamoto on the injured list with a triceps injury. Yamamoto left Saturday’s game against the Royals early and will undergo further testing to determine the extent of his injury.
