Former US President Donald Trump has regained the lead in the polls over current President Joe Biden, extending his lead by more than two percentage points. This trend has become more pronounced since the debate between the two last Thursday. According to an average of polls conducted by FiveThirtyEight, Trump currently has 42% of voting intentions compared to Biden’s 39.8%.

This is the largest lead that Trump has had since March 5, after which Biden briefly led until June 20 when Trump reclaimed the lead. Following a debate between the two candidates and Biden’s perceived poor performance, there have been calls for Biden to withdraw from the campaign due to questions about his physical and mental capabilities.

Despite these concerns, Biden has stated that he has no intention of abandoning his candidacy. Data collected by FiveThirtyEight shows that after the debate, Trump began to gain more support from citizens leading up to the November 5 elections. On July 1, Trump’s voting intentions were 1.4 points ahead of Biden, and by Wednesday, this lead had increased to 2.2 points.
