In the opening game of the NBA’s Western Conference Finals, Luka Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to a 108-105 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Doncic scored 33 points, with 15 of them coming in the final quarter, and also contributed six rebounds and eight assists. Kyrie Irving also had a standout performance for Dallas, scoring 30 points, with 24 of them in the first half of the game.
Doncic expressed the team’s hard work in securing the win, mentioning that they wanted to make a point after their previous game one losses. Although they gained the first advantage in the best-of-seven series, Doncic emphasized that there is still a long way to go with three more wins needed for success.
The game was closely contested, with the lead changing hands multiple times in the final quarter. However, the Mavericks managed to pull ahead with eight unanswered points, fueled by Doncic’s impressive plays, including a crucial step-back jump shot. Jaden McDaniels was the leading scorer for the Timberwolves with 24 points, while Anthony Edwards added 19.
The Mavericks and Timberwolves will face off again in game two on Friday in Minneapolis. It promises to be another intense battle as both teams look to gain an advantage in the series.
