Detroit native and Lions wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones will be the featured speaker at the Detroit High School Sports Awards, presented by Detroit Area Honda Dealers in partnership with the U.S. Army. This event is part of a nine-month student-athlete recognition program that will culminate in a red-carpet show this spring. The show will honor athletes, coaches, and teams from across the Detroit region participating in Michigan High School Athletic Association sports.
The Detroit High School Sports Awards will take place on June 18 at The Fillmore Detroit, with tickets now available for purchase. Donovan Peoples-Jones has excelled at every level of football in Michigan, starting with his standout career at Cass Tech where he was named the Michigan High School Football Player of the Year in 2017. He then continued his success at the University of Michigan, earning accolades such as freshman All-American and two-time All-Big Ten selection as a wide receiver and punt returner.
After being drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Peoples-Jones was traded to the Detroit Lions in October 2023. In his first season with the Lions, he recorded five receptions for 58 yards and played a significant role on special teams. Peoples-Jones signed a new contract with the Lions in March 2024 to continue his professional football career in his hometown.
