Jack Draper made a strong start to his Wimbledon campaign, aiming to go beyond the second round for the first time in his career. He faced Swedish qualifier Elias Ymer in his opening match and despite a tentative start, he managed to come through with a five-set victory on Centre Court. The 22-year-old’s win provided a boost for British tennis fans, especially after former world number one Andy Murray had to withdraw due to injury.

Draper’s next opponent in the second round will be Cameron Norrie, the player he recently replaced as British men’s number one. Norrie, who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals in 2022, also secured a straight-sets victory in his opening match at this year’s Championships. The two Britons were among 11 players representing their home country on the second day of the tournament.

Another notable British winner was Jacob Fearnley, who secured his first Grand Slam victory and will now face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic in the second round. However, there were disappointments for other British players like Henry Searle, Billy Harris, Paul Jubb, and Jan Choinski, who all suffered defeats in their respective matches. The Wimbledon action continues with more matches to follow.
