Emerson, Lake and Palmer, the 70s prog-rock band known for hits like “Lucky Man,” “From The Beginning” and “Karn Evil #9,” are reuniting with the help of technology for a tour called “Welcome Back My Friends: The Return of Emerson, Lake and Palmer,” which includes a stop at the Kent Stage on July 22. Tickets for the show start at $55 and go on sale on May 24 at 10 a.m. on the venue’s website.
The band’s original members, singer-bassist-guitarist Greg Lake and keyboardist Keith Emerson, passed away in 2016, leaving drummer Carl Palmer as the sole surviving member. However, with the cooperation of the Estates of Emerson and Lake, the trio will perform using video walls featuring footage of the late members performing at a 1992 show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Palmer will be joined by two side musicians on stage for the performance.
Palmer and his management first introduced “Welcome Back My Friends: The Return of Emerson, Lake and Palmer” in 2022, with the tour making a stop at Akron’s Goodyear Theater that year. The tour was well received by fans, and audio and DVD releases of “Live at The Royal Albert Hall” are still available, featuring fan favorites and original songs alongside classical arrangements such as a medley of tunes by American composers like Aaron Copeland, Leonard Bernstein, and Dave Brubeck.
