DSC to Launch Online Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology Starting Fall Semester

Daytona State College is set to launch a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology concentration (BSET-IET) degree that will be available fully online starting in Fall 2024. This program is the first of its kind offered in the Florida College System and aims to prepare graduates for technical roles in the growing fields of industrial operations in both services and manufacturing sectors.

Dr. Tom LoBasso, President of Daytona State College, highlighted the importance of offering this new program in Volusia and Flagler counties, which are becoming major hubs for manufacturing in Central Florida. The initiative underscores the college’s commitment to meeting the educational and workforce needs of students and business leaders in the region.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, there is expected to be a 12% increase in demand for Industrial Engineering graduates over the next decade, surpassing the average growth rate for engineering-related careers. This demand is driven by factors such as technological advancements and increased focus on efficiency and cost-effectiveness in industrial operations.

The program builds upon the success of the College’s Angela and D.S. Patel School of Engineering Technology, which already offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, and Information Technology. Graduates from these programs are equipped with in-demand skills for roles in data analytics, decision making, optimization, process improvement, quality control, and project management.

The BSET-IET program follows a 2+2 model, meaning that applicants must have completed an Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, or Associate of Applied Science degree from a regionally accredited institution, or have completed 60 credits of transferrable college-level coursework. Financial aid is available for eligible students interested in pursuing this program.
