Forest Lake defeated Eden Prairie 5-1 in the Class AAAA quarterfinals of the state softball tournament at Caswell Park in Mankato. In the first inning, Forest Lake took an early 3-0 lead. However, in the top of the fifth inning, with runners on first and second, Eden Prairie’s senior outfielder Ayana Lombardy doubled to left field, scoring junior outfielder Claire Archambault and cutting the lead to 3-1. Archambault also made several outstanding catches in left field during the game.
Despite their efforts, Eden Prairie ultimately lost to Forest Lake. They will now face Edina in the consolation bracket on Thursday at 9 a.m. in Mankato. Coach Dan Rubischko waved in Archambault as she scored on Lombardy’s double, showing a strong sense of team spirit and support for his players. The game was a tough battle on the field, but both teams gave it their all.
