An event called “Stop Trippin’ and Start Living’” was held at the East Bluff Community Center in Peoria on Saturday morning to promote children’s emotional wellbeing and healthy lifestyles. The event aimed to address the recent increase in violent crimes and provide mental health resources from Carle Health and the Peoria Police Department. The goal was to remove barriers to accessing mental health resources, particularly for grade school students.
The event welcomed everyone to attend, but grade school students were the primary target audience. Demetrius Randle, the Executive Director of EBCC, stated that the event was created to help children feel more comfortable and to start an open dialogue about their feelings. Additionally, the center will be launching a summer basketball program for third through seventh graders starting on June 15th.
