ECU Health Medical Center will be hosting the “Pause to Give Life Event” on Wednesday morning, rain or shine. This event is a way to honor organ donors and recipients. Despite only 50 percent of adults in North Carolina being registered organ donors, there are 3,000 people in the state waiting for organ and tissue donations, with over 100,000 waiting nationwide.

As part of the event, ECU Health will raise the Donate Life Flag at 10:08 a.m. The flag-raising will be followed by a 30-second moment of silence to pay tribute to donors and their families, as well as those patiently waiting for donations and recipients who have already received the gift of life.

The specific start time of 10:08 a.m. is symbolic, representing that one donor can potentially save eight lives. The event will take place at the ECU Health Medical Center flag pole located at 2100 Stantonsburg Road. Despite the weather conditions and it being a First Alert Weather Day, the hospital plans to proceed with the flag raising outside at the flag pole. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be moved to the chapel at the hospital.
