Ed Policy named as Green Bay Packers’ new president and CEO, succeeding Mark Murphy

The Green Bay Packers announced on Monday that their chief operating officer and general counsel, Ed Policy, will be taking over as the team’s president and CEO for Mark Murphy. Murphy will continue to serve until his scheduled retirement at the age of 70 next offseason, with Policy assuming the role in July 2025. Policy, who has been with the franchise since 2012, is the son of former San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns executive Carmen Policy.

Policy was selected for the role through a unanimous vote of the Packers board of directors following a recommendation by a search committee. Board chair Susan Finco stated that Policy has an inspiring and innovative vision of the future and provides great continuity of leadership for a seamless transition. Policy joined the Packers in 2021 as vice president and general counsel before being promoted to COO in 2018, overseeing the franchise’s legal affairs, sales, marketing, and fan engagement efforts.

With a background as the commissioner of the Arena Football League and as an executive consultant for the NFL league office, Policy has shifted his career focus to sports administration. He emphasized the team’s focus on building a winning culture and having a positive impact on the community. Mark Murphy, who has been the Packers president and CEO since 2008, will work closely with Policy over the next 13 months as he transitions into his new role.

Murphy praised Policy for being a tremendous asset to the organization and greatly instrumental in the team’s success over the last 12 years. Policy expressed his excitement for the opportunity and his commitment to upholding the Packers’ tradition of excellence and community engagement. The team looks forward to Policy’s leadership as they continue to strive for success both on and off the field.
