Ed Scott, a sports administrator from Virginia, hired as AD by Memphis

Memphis has announced the hiring of Ed Scott, a sports administrator from Virginia, as its new athletic director and senior vice president. Scott, who had been with Virginia since January 2022, has experience overseeing various sports programs including men’s basketball, baseball, swimming and diving, and track and field. He also served as a special advisor to the head football coach at Virginia.

Prior to working at Virginia, Scott was the athletic director at Morgan State starting in October 2016 before moving on to the Cavaliers’ athletic department. Memphis president Bill Hardgrave expressed his excitement about Scott joining the Tiger family, emphasizing the need for a forward-thinking leader. Hardgrave believes Scott fits the bill and has the ability to bring success to the university.

In response to his new role, Scott expressed gratitude towards Hardgrave and the university administration for selecting him. He spoke highly of the coaches, athletes, staff, and supporters at Memphis, stating that they are all prepared for success. Scott sees the opportunity to achieve great things at Memphis and is excited to take on this new challenge.

Scott’s appointment comes as Laird Veatch, the previous athletic director at Memphis, moved on to become the AD at Missouri in May. With Scott’s experience and leadership, Memphis is looking forward to a successful future under his direction.
