The El Paso Department of Public Health (DPH) is hosting a technology and innovation event at the Fabens Senior Center today as part of their Health Week initiative. The event aims to provide educational topics on new technology tools available to seniors to help them use their cell phones for health-related purposes. Topics covered will include tracking physical activity, adding emergency contacts, and setting up automatic 911 calls in case of emergencies.

Rosalyn Negron, public health education and prevention specialist with the City of El Paso, emphasized the importance of raising awareness among seniors about these technology tools. She mentioned that the older generation can be skeptical but very independent, highlighting the need for access and understanding of how to use these features. A team of eight educators will be present to assist seniors and respond to any questions they may have.

The session will be divided into two groups, one for seniors with iOS phones and another for those without Apple phones. The event will start at 10:00 a.m. at the Fabens Senior Center, with the goal of reducing health disparities in El Paso communities. The event is funded by the DPH’s CDC Health Equity Grant and aims to provide information and resources to the entire El Paso County.
