The Director General of the Ministry of Defense, Eyal Zamir, has signed a contract for the purchase of large quantities of ammunition for the ground forces from Elbit Maarahot concern. This contract is set to last for several years and has a cost of 2.8 billion shekels. The production of the ammunition will take place at Elbit’s factories in Israel.
Since the start of the war, the Ministry of Defense has spent a total of 63 billion shekels on arms purchases. In an effort to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers, orders worth around 40 billion shekels have been placed with Israeli manufacturers. Defense enterprises are currently operating at an intensive pace to meet the demands.
The Ministry of Defense has requested the Land Administration to postpone the dismantling of the Elbit plant in Ramat Hasharon for one and a half years. This move is to ensure that production can continue at both the current plant and at the new Negev location in order to meet the urgent need for ammunition.
