Anmol Kaur, a San Joaquin Valley native from Bakersfield, is a first-year student at UC Merced enrolled for the fall 2024 semester. She has a strong background in science and medicine, with parents who have careers in the medical field. Kaur was accepted into the second SJV PRIME+ medical education cohort, following in her parents’ footsteps and aiming to make an impact in the world of science and medicine.

Growing up in Bakersfield and graduating from Stockdale High School, Kaur maintained a 4.5 GPA and participated in the Project Lead the Way biomedical science program. She gained hands-on experience in analyzing DNA, dissecting organs, and conducting a pig autopsy. Additionally, Kaur co-founded W.I.S.E. (Women in STEM Education), a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating young girls about STEM careers through online seminars, workshops, and scholarships.

Excited to attend UC Merced, Kaur appreciates the university’s peaceful setting in the Central Valley. Her acceptance into the SJV PRIME+ BS/MD pathway was a significant factor in her decision to enroll at the university. As a biological sciences major, Kaur aims to continue exploring her passion for science and medicine, prepare for medical school, volunteer in her community, and build lasting connections with others.

In her free time, Kaur enjoys eating various fruits, considers herself a night owl, and dreams of exploring Italy’s scenic towns for a three-day weekend. She looks forward to gaining new experiences and developing strong relationships at UC Merced, inspired by the connections formed by the previous SJV PRIME+ cohort.
