The Flemish energy regulator VREG has initiated legal action against Fluvius, as reported by Het Laatste Nieuws on Tuesday. Fluvius had until June 30 to address the persistent IT issues that have been ongoing for nearly three years. However, there are still thousands of Flemish residents who have not received an energy bill in months or even years.

In November 2021, Fluvius launched Atrias in collaboration with other Belgian grid operators. Atrias is a centralized database designed to streamline the exchange of data related to energy consumption and billing with energy providers. Unfortunately, due to a software glitch, the database is not functioning as intended, leading to numerous complaints.

Currently, the EAN numbers of 21,785 Flemish households and small to medium-sized enterprises have been blocked for extended periods, some for more than half a year. VREG spokesperson Barbara Janssens stated, “We have determined that Fluvius has not resolved the situation as expected.” Since the deadline has passed, legal action will be taken, with details to be clarified in the coming week.

Fluvius, in response to the situation, mentioned they have not been informed of the specific steps involved in the legal action.
