Since Gareth Southgate became the manager, England has made it into the knockout stages in all four tournaments. They have now qualified for the last 16 of Euro 2024 with a group game to spare, thanks to Spain beating Albania 1-0. With this victory, the Netherlands and France also progress from Group D into the knockout phase. England finishes their Group C campaign on Tuesday against Slovenia in Cologne, having already secured their spot in the next phase.

Under Gareth Southgate, England has accumulated four points in the group stage with a 1-0 win against Serbia and a 1-1 draw with Denmark. Even if they draw against Slovenia, they are guaranteed to advance, but a win could see them top the group. The potential scenarios for the group standings depend on the results of other matches in the group.

If England wins the group, they will face a third-placed team from Group D, Group E, or Group F in the last 16. However, finishing as group runners-up would mean a match against hosts Germany. If England comes third in Group C, they will face either Group F winners Portugal or the Group E winners in the knockout stage. The path forward is now clear for England as they prepare to navigate the knockout rounds of Euro 2024.
