Eric Gordon to join Sixers on a 1-year contract

The Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to sign veteran shooting guard Eric Gordon to a one-year, minimum-salary deal, as confirmed by a source to NBC Sports Philadelphia. This move was first reported by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, with PHLY Sports’ Kyle Neubeck being the first to report that Gordon would be joining the Sixers on a minimum contract.

Gordon, who is 35 years old, spent his prime years playing for the Houston Rockets during current Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey’s tenure as GM. He was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2016-17 season and has averaged 15.7 points over 379 games with Houston. Known for his three-point shooting and ability to handle the ball, Gordon posted solid numbers last season with the Suns, averaging 11.0 points, 2.0 assists, and 1.8 rebounds per game while shooting 37.8 percent from long range on 5.8 attempts per contest. He has consistently been an efficient scorer throughout his career.

Gordon declined his player option with the Suns in order to enter free agency, ultimately signing with the Sixers. The team is still in the process of filling out their roster, but Morey is focused on building a contender and is looking to surround star center Joel Embiid with shooters. In addition to Gordon, the Sixers have also agreed to terms with Andre Drummond during free agency, solidifying their frontcourt depth.
