On the latest episode of the Don’t Go To Bed Just Yet podcast on BBC Radio Leeds, Jonny Buchan, Adam Pope, and Simon Rix discussed the center-back position at Leeds United. The options for next season are still uncertain, as Liam Cooper is in talks about extending his contract at Elland Road, and Max Wober may potentially return to the squad after spending last season on loan.

Buchan mentioned that Leeds typically run tight on profit and sustainability and if Cooper decides to continue playing and gets game time elsewhere, they will need another center-half to come in. However, having Wober in the squad could eliminate the need to spend additional money, as it is already factored into their financial calculations for the season. The decision ultimately depends on whether Wober wants to stay at Leeds or pursue opportunities at a higher standard elsewhere.

Rix added that Wober may be waiting to see if Leeds are making moves to secure promotion to the Premier League, which could influence his decision. While the club is a good bet for many players, the gamble of playing in the Championship for a year to potentially return to the Premier League may be worth it for some. Rix believed that Leeds should consider acquiring two new center-backs to replace Joe Rodon and Liam Cooper, as it can be challenging to find quality defenders in the transfer market while already having one potential option in the squad.
