Manchester United is currently in discussions with defender Jonny Evans regarding the possibility of extending his contract with the club. The 36-year-old returned to United last season from Leicester City, eight years after leaving Old Trafford initially. Evans had initially been training with the club during pre-season to keep up his fitness, but his impressive performances led to a one-year deal being offered by manager Erik ten Hag.
During the last season, Evans made 30 appearances for Manchester United in various competitions, including a memorable substitute appearance in the FA Cup victory against Manchester City at Wembley. The club has also confirmed ongoing negotiations with goalkeeper Tom Heaton over a new contract, while a new deal has been put on the table for 19-year-old Omari Forson. Forson made his Premier League debut in February and provided the assist for Kobbie Mainoo’s winning goal against Wolves.
However, there are players who will be released by Manchester United on June 30 when their contracts expire. Brandon Williams, Anthony Martial, and Raphael Varane are among those who will be leaving the club. Williams, who spent last season on loan at Ipswich, has been sidelined due to injury since December and is set to return to United. His last appearance for the club was in September 2022.
