Everton defender Ben Godfrey has expressed a preference for a transfer to Atalanta, despite the Italian club’s offer falling short of Everton’s asking price, according to The Athletic. Having joined Everton in 2016, Godfrey has made 93 appearances for the club but saw limited playing time last season, featuring in just 16 matches. As one of the players Everton are open to offers for, Atalanta has shown interest in acquiring Godfrey.
Atalanta has reportedly made a verbal offer of £8.46m for the defender, which is below Everton’s £15m asking price. Another unnamed club has also put in an offer that matches Everton’s valuation of Godfrey. However, it is said that Godfrey’s preference is to join Atalanta in the current transfer window.
Atalanta is known for playing a progressive style of football and for developing young players in Italy. It remains unclear whether the Serie A club will be able to come close to meeting Everton’s asking price to secure Godfrey’s transfer. It will be interesting to see how negotiations between the two clubs develop in the coming days.
