Everton has paid tribute to Kevin Campbell, a beloved player who has passed away at the age of 54. Campbell joined the club on loan in March 1999 and made a significant impact by scoring nine times in their final eight Premier League games, helping them avoid relegation. His performance earned him a permanent deal that summer, and he stayed with Everton for over five seasons.

The club expressed deep sadness at the news of Campbell’s passing, describing him as a true hero at Goodison Park and an icon of English football. They remembered him as not just a great player, but also an incredible person. Campbell made history as Everton’s first black captain in the top-flight and won the hearts of fans by scoring a memorable winner in a Merseyside derby at Anfield in September 1999.

His goal ended a 22-year wait for an away win at Anfield for Everton, solidifying his place in the affection of the club’s supporters. Campbell is fifth on the list of Everton’s highest Premier League scorers with 45 goals and scored a total of 51 times in 164 appearances in all competitions for the club. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him as “Super Kev” and for his significant contributions to Everton.
