Everton in discussions to acquire ex-Sheffield United striker

Everton is reportedly in talks with Marseille about signing former Sheffield United forward Iliman Ndiaye. The 24-year-old could potentially become Sean Dyche’s third summer signing, following Tim Iroegbunam’s acquisition from Aston Villa and Jack Harrison’s return on loan from Leeds. While discussions with Marseille are progressing well, no finalized deal for the Senegal international has been reached yet.

Ndiaye joined Marseille last summer for £20m but only managed to score four goals in 46 games. However, he played a crucial role in helping Sheffield United secure promotion to the Premier League the previous season, with 14 goals and 10 assists. His potential addition could provide Everton with another attacking option following Lewis Dobbin’s departure to Aston Villa. Meanwhile, talks to keep striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the club have stalled after negotiations with Newcastle fell through.

In other news, Ashley Young has extended his stay at Everton by signing a new one-year contract, taking him close to his 40th birthday. The former Manchester United captain, who was Dyche’s initial signing, expressed his excitement about staying at the club. Young, who made 34 appearances last season as Everton’s oldest ever outfield debutant, emphasized his determination to continue performing at the highest level.

Young’s decision to remain at Everton comes after club captain Seamus Coleman also committed to a new contract. As Dyche’s squad starts to take shape for the upcoming season, the experienced duo’s presence and leadership could prove invaluable to the team.
