Evonik’s TEGO Guard 9000, a new technology for exterior wall paints, has been awarded the prestigious Ringier Technology Innovation Award – Coating Industry for its unique quick-set property. This award, which has been presented since 2006, recognizes innovation in the coatings industry. The jury praised the new technology for improving the stabilization of paint ingredients in facade coatings immediately after application, providing swift protection against weathering.

The quick-set property of TEGO Guard 9000 is achieved through electrostatic interaction between a cationic organic polymer and the anionic paint ingredients in the coating formulation. This results in high rain resistance within minutes of application, reduces moisture content on substrates and surfaces, and prevents moss and mold growth. TEGO Guard 9000 can be added to coating formulations without affecting storage stability and is compatible with a wide range of latex systems, various PVCs, and color formulations.

Dr. Katina Kiep, head of the global decorative coatings market segment at Evonik Coating Additives, described TEGO Guard 9000 as a breakthrough technology for exterior wall paints. She emphasized that its quick-set property offers a sustainable solution for architectural facade coatings, reducing the impact of weathering during the application process and enhancing durability and long-term protection. Dr. Kiep expressed gratitude for receiving the award and pride in the innovative capabilities demonstrated by the team during the development of this product.
