Expansion plans are currently in progress at the Round Rock Sports Center in Texas. The construction is expected to be completed by early 2026 and will add two new courts to the facility, bringing the total to eight, as city officials announced on Monday. The Round Rock Sports Center originally opened its doors in January 2014 to support sports recreation and events, boasting an 82,800 square foot facility with six basketball courts that can also be converted to 12 volleyball courts.

Once the expansion is complete, the facility will have a reconfigured floorplan that can accommodate various events simultaneously. This includes the ability to hold a 16-court volleyball tournament or separate spaces for a 6-court basketball tournament and a cheer competition. Chad McKenzie, the director of sports management and tourism, highlighted the economic impact of sports tourism in Round Rock, which has brought in over $162 million since the Sports Center opened. The expansion project aims to keep Round Rock competitive in hosting a wide range of events.

Over the years, the Round Rock Sports Center has hosted state-level and national events, including the USA Deaf Basketball National Tournament, the Texas State Taekwondo Championships, and national cheer and dance competitions. The facility is also utilized for youth basketball, volleyball, fitness camps, sports training, and recreational activities for residents, with more information available online.

During the construction period, the Round Rock Sports Center will remain fully operational, but some individual courts and restrooms may be temporarily offline. Additionally, there may be reduced or modified parking spaces available due to the expansion project. The funding for this project comes from the City of Round Rock’s 2023 bond package, which had a total of $274 million allocated for various projects.
