To celebrate the release of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Portal on Switch, Nintendo has included the beloved character in its paper “hall of fame” alongside iconic figures such as Canova, D’Annunzio, Fellini, Buonarroti, Beethoven, and Garibaldi. This marks a special moment as the game originally debuted on GameCube twenty years ago, revolutionizing the series of action role-playing games featuring the most famous Italian video game character.

Fabriano, the Italian paper company, has also recognized the significance of Paper Mario by including him among its “timeless masters,” who are described as guardians of a centuries-old tradition expressed through paper. The release of this re-edition of the game has brought together the worlds of gaming and traditional craftsmanship in a unique way.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Portal follows Mario and his companions as they search for Star Gems to open a legendary portal and rescue Princess Peach. Players must master a combat system that requires strategy, timing, and the use of special abilities to overcome challenges.

In addition to engaging battles, players can upgrade their characters with equippable tiles, collect items for use in battles, and unleash powerful special attacks using Star Gems. The game offers a mix of exploration, strategy, and nostalgia for fans of the series, making it a must-play for both new and veteran players.
