The Transportation Security Administration is anticipating the busiest Fourth of July holiday week in history. On June 30, security personnel screened over 86,000 people at Denver International Airport, marking it as the fourth busiest day for TSA officials.
CBS Colorado’s First Alert Traffic Tracker Reporter, Brian Sherrod, accompanied the TSA on a tour to demonstrate how they aim to expedite the process for travelers. The TSA is employing face recognition machines that can quickly scan government IDs for basic information like name, age, and boarding details in just 10 seconds. This technology is being utilized at Denver International Airport and is one of the first in the country to do so.
Despite the implementation of new technology, the TSA still encounters common mistakes that can lead to delays, including passengers not having their IDs ready for inspection and carrying prohibited items like water bottles in their bags.
Lorie Dankers, a spokeswoman for TSA Colorado, emphasizes the importance of allowing ample time for unexpected circumstances when traveling. Rushing through security can cause added stress, especially during a busy travel season like the Fourth of July holiday week.
During this peak travel period from June 28 to July 8, the TSA expects an average of 85,000 passengers per day. Travelers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport and plan to arrive at least two hours before their scheduled departure time.
