Falcons, Eagles avoid tampering punishment as work week concludes

On Sunday, it was reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com that the Falcons and Eagles would likely face punishments for tampering with Kirk Cousins and Saquon Barkley, respectively. However, as the work week has ended without any announcement, it seems that unless there is a Saturday announcement, it is unlikely to happen for now.

In fairness to Schefter, he only mentioned that the punishments were “likely” and not definite. It is not uncommon for plans to change once news of an impending announcement is leaked. There is no immediate deadline for any action to be taken, especially if the punishment involves 2025 draft picks, which would not need to be implemented until April of next year.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the timing, there was a strong indication in last weekend’s report that both teams were going to face consequences, with the Falcons expected to receive a harsher punishment than the Eagles. Whether the announcement comes today, next week, next month, or even next March, the punishments will eventually be handed down. It remains to be seen what those punishments will be and how transparent the league will be about the evidence and investigation surrounding the tampering allegations.
