Fernando Tatís Jr. of the San Diego Padres has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a right femoral stress reaction as diagnosed by the team’s medical staff. He has been dealing with tightness in his right quadriceps for the past few weeks and has not played since Friday. In addition to this, Tatís Jr. also has a left triceps bruise from being hit by a pitch on Friday.
There were initial hopes that Tatís Jr. could be used as a pinch-hitter, but further evaluation determined that rest was necessary for his full recovery. Padres manager Mike Shildt mentioned that there is no clear timetable for Tatís’ return at this time. He could potentially return to the lineup in early July or after the MLB All-Star break.
Despite his injuries, Tatís Jr. has had a strong season so far, playing in 80 games and hitting .279 with 14 home runs and 36 RBI. The Padres are currently in second place in the NL West and hold the final NL wild-card spot with a record of 41-41. It will be important for the team to monitor his progress and ensure that he is fully recovered before returning to play.
