Plano ISD teacher Stephanie Tann has been recognized as one of six finalists for the Outstanding Science Educators award in Texas. Tann, who is also a photographer for Local Profile, is known for her innovative lesson plans that engage students and emphasize the importance and fun of science. The SPARK Award, presented by Alliant Group, honors teachers who inspire students to excel in science.
Tann, who teaches at Davis Elementary, believes in encouraging her students to ask questions, take risks, and build confidence to pursue any career they desire, whether it’s in engineering, art, science, or leadership. Despite not initially planning to become a teacher, Tann discovered her passion for education through her children and her love for science.
For Tann, receiving the SPARK Award nomination is a significant achievement as it recognizes her dedication to her students and their education. As a finalist, she has the opportunity to win a $3,500 personal award and $500 for her classroom, while the other finalists will receive $1,300 and $500 respectively. Tann is proud to have made a difference in her students’ lives and sees this award as a validation of her impact on their education and future success.
The final winner of the SPARK Award will be announced on June 19, 2024. Tann is grateful for the recognition and hopes to continue inspiring students to explore the wonders of science and pursue their dreams.
