A small fire recently occurred on the Icon of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship. Crew members quickly extinguished the fire, and there were no injuries reported. The incident took place while the vessel was berthed in Costa Maya, Mexico. Despite a brief loss of power, back-up power was activated immediately.
The crew aboard the Icon of the Seas is trained to handle such situations, and passengers were alerted of the fire through on-board announcements. Social media users in an Icon of the Seas Facebook group mentioned minor disruptions but stated that operations returned to normal quickly.
The record-breaking Icon of the Seas features seven swimming pools and a 17,000-square-foot water park. The vessel is currently en route to Cozumel, Mexico, and its itinerary has not been affected by the fire incident. A Carnival Cruise Lines ship also experienced a fire in March, but Royal Caribbean reassured that such incidents are rare and usually handled swiftly with minimal passenger disruption.
