First dog from South Jersey to walk around the world passes away

Savannah, a rescue puppy who accompanied her owner Tom Turcich on a seven-year walk around the world, has passed away. Turcich adopted Savannah from a Texas animal shelter four months into their journey, and she became an integral part of their incredible adventure. Unfortunately, she was euthanized at a New Jersey animal hospital due to kidney problems and other medical issues.

Turcich shared his grief on his Instagram page, expressing the profound pain he felt at losing his beloved companion. He described their final moments together, reminiscing about how they used to seek comfort in each other during rough weather in their tent. Savannah had been by Turcich’s side for nearly 9 years and was a source of love and support throughout their journey.

Savannah was the first dog to walk around the world, and Turcich was the tenth person to achieve this feat. They completed their journey on May 21, 2022, and were warmly welcomed back to South Jersey with a celebration in their honor. Turcich embarked on this epic adventure after the tragic death of a close friend, and Savannah played a crucial role in helping him cope with his loss.

Last June, Turcich published a book called “Savannah’s World of Adventure: Crossing the Andes,” which chronicles their experiences during the Argentine leg of their journey. Savannah’s spirit will live on in Turcich’s forthcoming book about their expedition, as she was a central figure in their incredible story. The pair’s travels were followed by many through social media, and fans have flooded Turcich’s Instagram with messages of condolences.

Despite Savannah’s failing health, Turcich remained grateful for the time he had shared with her and the memories they had created together. Their bond was unbreakable, and Savannah’s presence will be deeply missed by Turcich and all who followed their remarkable journey.
