The first half of the 2024 MLB season for the New York Mets has been filled with ups and downs, from a dismal start to recent good luck charms like Grimace. One of the latest phenomena in Mets world is infielder José Iglesias, also known as Candelita, who performed his hit “OMG” during a postgame concert after a recent win over the Houston Astros.

Iglesias, who signed a minor league contract with the team in December, has become a key player for the Mets. The team has won 12 of their last 14 games, and fans at Citi Field got to enjoy not only the win but also Iglesias’ performance as he entertained the crowd while still in uniform.

Teammates, as well as Mr. and Mrs. Met, stood along the first base side of the field to cheer on Iglesias during his performance, showcasing the camaraderie and unity that the team has developed. Iglesias noted that the team has become like a family, showing support for each other and playing good baseball.

Since Iglesias was called up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 31, the Mets have been on a winning streak, going 17-6 and now only a game out of the last NL wild card spot. His hit “OMG” was originally set to be released on streaming platforms in July, but it was moved up a week early due to his success and popularity.

For Iglesias, the recent events have been a dream come true. He expressed gratitude and humility, and noted that he is floating with emotion after the win and the performance. The tight-knit Mets team is clicking and enjoying their success, taking it one day at a time while playing good baseball together.
