Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev recently made controversial remarks suggesting that the US wrongly believes it won the Cold War and is now on the verge of losing it completely. Medvedev, who is now the deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, made these comments during the 12th International Legal Forum in St. Petersburg.

Medvedev’s statements are consistent with his current anti-West stance, despite initially being viewed as more liberal and pro-West when he was elected in 2008. However, since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Medvedev has taken an increasingly aggressive position against Western countries in an apparent effort to align himself with President Vladimir Putin.

Notably, Medvedev has been making bombastic threats against the West, including suggesting the use of nuclear weapons in response to potential NATO support for Ukraine. He also proposed launching a hypersonic missile at The Hague after an arrest warrant was issued for Putin by the International Criminal Court.

In addition, Medvedev has made outlandish predictions about future conflicts and the potential collapse of Western nations. He warned of a potential war between France and Germany and even speculated that Elon Musk could one day become the US president, a claim that was dismissed by Musk himself as “absurd.”

Despite these controversial statements, Medvedev’s representative did not respond to requests for comment from Business Insider.
