Reducing the risk of cancer can be achieved through various lifestyle choices, such as eating a Mediterranean diet, exercising daily, limiting dietary supplements, and not smoking. According to the American Cancer Society, 88% of people with cancer are over 50, and survival rates have improved over the years. However, there has been a rapid increase in the number of cancer cases in people under 50, with a study showing an 80% increase globally from 1990 to 2019.

While risk factors for some cancers, like smoking, are well known, researchers are still unclear why rates are rising in young people for many other cancers. Dr. Daniel Landau believes that modern lifestyle factors such as being less active and consuming more saturated fat may be contributing to the rise in cancer rates.

To reduce his own cancer risk, Landau follows a Mediterranean-style diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and lean proteins like fish. He also exercises daily with a mix of strength training and cardio to prevent cancer. Landau advises against relying on supplements, except for protein powder after workouts, as more research is needed to prove their effectiveness. Lastly, Landau stresses the importance of not smoking, as it is strongly linked to lung and bladder cancer.

Overall, making healthy lifestyle choices like following a Mediterranean diet, exercising regularly, avoiding supplements, and not smoking can help reduce the risk of cancer and lead to a healthier life.
